CYD Research GmbH founded in 2005 as a spin-off of commodity research projects that were started in 2001 by the chair of Prof. Dr. Heinz Zimmermann at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Today Dr. Viola Markert, who was in charge of those research projects, is managing director of CYD Research GmbH.
CYD explores price formation mechanisms on international commodity futures markets from a scientific point of view and develops rule-based and active approaches to systematically capture the risk premium, intrinsic to commodity markets.
In 2006 CYD Research GmbH has launched the first ever commodity indices that are broadly diversified and conditioned on the term structure, as well as the first market neutral commodity index. Moreover, based on the CYD approaches active (long/short or market neutral) portfolios are managed.
CYD Research GmbH is a subsidiary of Vescore, further proprietors are Prof. Dr. Heinz Zimmermann and Dr. Viola Markert.
